Can someone explain gutenprint driver listing format

HI,

Looking at printing and lpinfo -m lists the following :

canonmx490.ppd Canon MX490 series Ver.5.20
gutenprint.5.2://bjc-MG5700-series/expert Canon MG5700 series - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.14
…

Can anyone explain the format of the gutenprint entry (I can find nothing to indicate gutenprint running as a service or server application )

It looks like

  1. gutenprint.5.2 is the gutenprint CUPS driver.
  2. The full uri defines a printer the driver supports
  3. The URI is general functionality supported by CUPS in the context of 1 & 2

confirmation’d be nice. ( I can find no documentation )
