Trouble installing Nvidia Drivers

getting Nvidia Driver is a pain inda ass

basically the title:

running Alma via dual boot with windows!

Machine = Thinkpad P50 with old Quadro m100m GPU

1.its kinda laggy … ok lets try install nvidia driver ( How to Install NVIDIA Drivers on AlmaLinux 8 - LinuxCapable ) Nope

i get: " All matches were filtered out by modular filtering for argument: nvidia-settings

Error: Unable to find a match: nvidia-driver nvidia-settings "

  1. then i tried getting a driver directly from nvidia ( Download NVIDIA, GeForce, Quadro, and Tesla Drivers )

But nope its a f u 2! He tells me that the noveau needs to be disabled (which i cant even if adding a file blacklist.noveau.conf )

  1. last try ( …) trying to steal a driver for rhel (there is one for Rocky 8 though) but all i achieved is screwing up something with the repo " Updating Subscription Management repositories.

Unable to read consumer identity

This system is not registered with an entitlement server. You can use subscription-manager to register."

is RHEL telling me i dont get their shit without a valid Account here ?

little Help would be much apprechiated !

With EL8 (CentOS Linux, Alma, Rocky, RHEL, etc 8) I would not have done any of that.

Rather, I would have done:

sudo dnf install elrepo-release
sudo dnf install nvidia-detect
sudo dnf install $(nvidia-detect)

Once can still do that, if there are no other repos (NVidia’s, RPMfusion, etc) enabled that offer some version of NVidia drivers.
